My homage to “The Artist”

Here’s my little tribute to a great scene from one of the most interesting films that I’ve had the pleasure of seeing at the cinema this year- the oscar nominated “The Artist” directed by Michel Hazanavicius. Without dialogue this film has to rely on a great soundtrack (with a wonderful deployment of Bernard Herrmann’s theme song to Vertigo) and some superb cinematography, including the lovely scene that I’ve tried to emulate in which the rising young starlet is discovered in the dressing room of the silent screen star that she’s caught idolising in the compromising position of having her arm placed lovingly inside his hanging jacket. Definitely a film worth catching at the cinema if it’s still about, and I hope that my little recreation doesn’t serve as too unjust a tribute to the great visual flair on display throughout this retrovision cinematic gem.

Monochrome sunset and a mixtape of my favourite tunes

Alongside today’s dailiy shot, I thought I’d mix things up a bit by the inclusion of a funky little mix (if i do say so myself) that I put together today to help publicise my work and blog a little through some free cds to local businesses in the somewhat vain hope that it may help to sell my first photo. My musical taste is somewhat eclectic, but if you give it a go, It could well put a smile on your face, a dip in your yip, or even a little glide in your stride. This retro mix is made up of my favourite tracks of the moment primarily comprising p-funk, guitar based electro, classic rock tunes, and a peppering of disco. Expect to find songs that you’ll wish you already knew from artists such as the great Mr Bloe, The Blackbyrds, The Tom Tom Club, Junie, The Salsoul Orchestra, The Rolling Stones, Fingathing, and a whole lot more music that you just don’t hear enough of these days.

Let me know if you enjoy the variation in my site’s content or if you’d like a complete track listing.

Here’s the link to have a listen on souncloud since I canny put it up here- http://soundcloud.com/zootshooter/cosmic-slop
